Michael Berman CBE

Michael Berman has more than twenty-five years of experience in innovative software businesses. He founded Protek in 1982, which he grew to be a distribution and services IT company before repositioning it as a software and services business.

In 1993 Michael took control of Metrica, which specialised in software tools for the management of technical data. The company was re-launched as an application business and became the world-wide standard for monitoring the performance of mobile telecommunication networks. Metrica was acquired by ADC Telecoms in 1996, and Michael has since been involved in a number of early stage software businesses.

In 1999 he was appointed Chairman of Across Wireless AB, a Stockholm based telecoms software company. The business was repositioned in the wireless internet market and the company received a bid from Sonera of Finland in 2000 which resulted in the largest European wireless IT trade sale to date.

From 2000 to 2005 Michael was Chairman of Actix, a London based global company specialising in wireless performance optimisation of mobile networks. In 2005, Summit Partners, a private equity company, took a majority interest in Actix and Michael remained a non-executive Director until 2008.

Michael has a doctorate in Engineering and is a Sloan fellow of the London Business School. He is Founder Chairman of Southbank Sinfonia, an orchestra established in 2002 to provide intensive experience for outstanding young graduate musicians as they prepare to enter the profession.
